The Arts at the Stone Church and the Sea Grant program at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) hosts a free two-part series aptly titled “Our Coastal Landscapes.”The entire event is in the Roland Thacher Hall of First Congregational Church of Wareham, UCC at 11 Gibbs Avenue, Wareham.

Our Coastal Landscapes highlights the creative connection between science and art through hands-on activities and art experiences for all ages. Attendees will have the chance to engage directly with scientists and artists through interactive demonstrations and collaborative art projects. These activities are designed to foster a deeper appreciation for the unique ecosystems of the South Coast, highlighting both their scientific significance and artistic inspiration. Whether you're interested in learning about marine conservation or expressing your creativity through coastal-themed artwork, there is something for everyone at this event. The program features interactive exhibits and works from WHOI and local artists, encouraging visitors to explore coastal landscapes via scientific and artistic perspectives. Families, friends and curious minds are invited to explore interactive exhibits, meet local artists and scientists, and participate in creative activities designed to spark imagination and interest in studying science, art, and protecting nature This series begins with an opening reception at 11:30 am on Sunday October 19 with a closing reception Friday Oct 26 at 11:30-1.

The event is open to the public and welcomes attendees of all backgrounds, from passionate environmentalists to those simply curious about the coastal environment. In addition to the engaging activities, participants can enjoy refreshments and informal discussions, making the experience both educational and enjoyable. This vibrant gathering aims to build connections within the community by celebrating the intersection of science, art, and local heritage.

A "Science Party," inspired by Renaissance celebrations of Michelangelo, bridges creativity and innovation to delight visitors of all ages on Tuesday, October 21, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The WHOI Sea Grant program experts guide an exploration of the importance of our coastal environments, opportunities, threats and ways to enjoy the wonders where the land meets the water.

On October 19-26, local artists spanning all ages and levels of experience, together with WHOI scientist-artists display their many varied art, highlighting the beauty of our coastline, including salt marshes, rocky headlands, tidal estuaries, and the interplay of sunlight and moonlight on water.  Herons in pursuit of fish, playful otters, kayaks, and submersibles are all inspiration for artists throughout the South Coast.  Opening reception Sunday Oct 19, 11:30 – 1 pm. Gallery hours: Tuesday October 21, 10am-4:pm and Friday Oct 24, 11am – 1 pm.
