Bird enthusiasts and history buffs alike can learn about Dartmouth native and author Ben Shattuck’s new book “The History of Sound” at a book tour launch on Monday, July 8 at Westport’s Dedee Shattuck Gallery, 1 Partner’s Lane.

The event begins at 6 p.m. and will also include Pakistani-American filmmaker and author Sadia Shepard.

Shattuck’s book, which publishes on Tuesday, July 9, explores “the unexpected ways the past returns to us and how love and loss are entwined and transformed over generations” through 12 fictional short stories.

The book tour will make 15 stops at venues across New England ending on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Boston Book Festival.

The book is a collection of New England stories spanning over 300 years, Shattuck wrote.

The book tour will also include conversations with authors including Michael Cunningham, Julia Glass, Morgan Talty.

Shattuck published his first book, “Six Walks,” in 2022. The book, which retraces the steps of author, naturalist and transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau, was classified as a “Best Book of 2022,” according to the New Yorker.
