Adelaide J. (Fernandes) Mendes, 91, died peacefully Saturday, May 2 at her home following a brief illness.

She leaves her daughter Linda (Mendes) Barboza and her husband, Joseph of Northborough; her beloved companion, Manuel Paiva of South Dartmouth; her sister, Natalie Rishmany; her niece Jennifer (Rishmany) Cordeiro both of Fall River her nephew, David Fernandes of Seattle, and many close friends.

Born and raised in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Antonio Fernandes and Louisa (Paulina) Fernandes.

Addie worked various jobs in her career but her life was devoted to her family, she also enjoyed dancing.

She met her husband, Joseph Mendes in New Bedford and they were married until he passed in 1994.

At her request there will be no public funeral service. Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 11 am in St. Mary Church, South Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Community Nurse and Hospice, 62 Center St., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
