Antonio "Tony" Bernardo Jr., 78

Antonio "Tony" Bernardo Jr., of South Dartmouth passed away Monday, Jan. 18 at St Lukes Hospital surrounded by those who loved and cared for him after a long battle with MS.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Antonio Sr. and Isabel (Taveira) Bernardo. He is survived by one daughter Lisa Marie Arruda and her husband Richard Arruda and had three grandchildren Tyler Jorge, Kayla Marie and Collin Tony Arruda whom all lived with him in South Dartmouth. He was the brother of the late Edward Bernardo of New Bedford.

Tony graduated from New Bedford High in 1955. His dream was to join a band and travel the country, which he achieved when he joined the Army in 1960 then auditioned and became the drummer in the "Rollin Along of 1961 World-Touring Soldier Show" entertaining troops around the world. He later went on to work as a Sales Representative for United Liquors.

In accordance to his wishes, he was cremated and his visiting hours will be Monday, Jan. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 512 No. Front Street, New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. His burial private.
