Event Date:

Saturday, September 13, 2025 - 9:00am to 12:00pm

The Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management District will be having a tour of the Crapo Hill Landfill so people can learn more about the proposed construction of the next waste cell. The tour will be happening 300 Samuel Barnat Boulevard in New Bedford from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sept. 13.

A new cell called Cell 7 is being designed to safely hold waste in place according to solid waste guidelines. It will include a double-liner system and remain within the borders of assigned landfill borders. The cell will occupy 3.5 acres and provide at least an extra seven years of landfill service.

The landfill helps save district members costs on solid waste disposal; over $3 million annually, which benefits taxpayers and municipal services.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection is currently reviewing the request to construct this cell.
