Applicants sought for Finance Committee
The Dartmouth Town Moderator is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Finance Committee, with applications due by Tuesday, June 30.
The Finance Committee serves in an advistory role to Town Meeting, reviewing all warrant articles and making recommendations to Town Meeting. This inlcudes the town budget, finance articles and other articles, no matter whether they have direct financial implications.
A financial background is not required to be on the Committee. Members may bring different skills, experiences and perspectives that contribute to thoughtful review of the matters that come before Town Meeting.
Applicants who don't have a background in finance should be willing to learn about municipal budgets, local government finance and the financial issues that come before the Committee.
Important qualifications include preparation, good judgment, fairness, respect for others, a willingness to consider different perspectives and a commitment to serving the best interests of Dartmouth and residents.
Applicants will be expected to attend both the Spring Annual Town Meeting and the Fall Annual Town Meeting; attend at least 80% of Finance Committee meetings; review warrant articlces and supporting materials before meetings; consider the town budget and all other articles that come before Town Meeting; treat everyone who comes before the Finance Committee respectfully; work collaboratively with other town boards and committees; and participate in public meetings in a thoughtful, respective and constructive manner.
