Roz Crews, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s 2017-2018 Artist in Residence, will host a talk on her projects over the past academic year on May 1 at 11 a.m. at the university’s 715 Purchase Street Star Store campus in New Bedford.

Crews will discuss the origins of the Center for Undisciplined Research she founded for her residency and will provide an overview of the center’s activities over the past year. After the talk, there will be an opening reception for a new art installation, called CURE, in Room 228 of the Star Store.

The Center for Undisciplined Research is a nine-month public artwork program located on campus as a tool for people to critically examine what and how they want to learn. Her projects experiment with alternative modes of education and question the ways institutions educate people to become “engaged citizens.”

Crews had previously held an artist in residency position at Portland State University, and created one at Columbia River Correctional Institution in Portland, Oregon.
