Authorities have arrested a suspect wanted in the shooting death of a 27-year-old in Dartmouth earlier this week.

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Franklin Antonio Amaya Paredes, was arrested on a murder warrant Friday night in New Bedford.

The body of 27-year-old Jose Cortez Cornejo of New Bedford was found just after 5 a.m. on July 14 near 180 Horseneck Road.

Dartmouth Police received a 911 call at 5:10 a.m. on Tuesday from a motorist who reported seeing a man collapsed on the side of the road. Police and paramedics determined Cornejo to be deceased after arriving on scene.

An autopsy determined Cornejo died of gunshot wounds, the district attorney’s office said earlier this week.

Paredes will be arraigned in New Bedford District Court on Monday.
