Beaches reopened following recent sewage discharge

Sep 3, 2022

Town officials on Friday announced that the four beaches closed due to sewage discharge into Clark’s Cove can now reopen.

Officials notified residents Thursday that on Aug. 31, an overflow pipe from the City of New Bedford’s collection system, which contains untreated sewage, was discharged into the cove at Padanaram Avenue.

Jones Beach, South & North, and Anthony’s Beach were temporarily closed as a result in order to test the water quality.

According to the Dartmouth Board of Health, samples in the area were all “within normal limits.”
