Bird club to meet Feb. 8
The Paskamansett Bird Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8 at the Community Hall of Friends Meeting, located at 739 Horseneck Road in South Dartmouth. Henry Zimberlin and his son Dan will speak about their shared birding experiences and show their slides, with a focus on Bristol County birds.
In contrast with many father-son birders, the original Zimberlin birder was son Dan, who started watching birds at the age of seven.
“I went along with him and drove the car around the country looking for birds. Every vacation was spent in some new area where we could find good birds. Dan has read almost every bird book there is. I know, I paid for them!” recalled Zimberlin.
The Zimberlins have been birdwatching together for 40 years. About four years ago, Zimberlin began taking pictures and got hooked on bird photography. He and Dan will be showing some of these photos, many from their home base in Bristol County.
In January 2016, they photographed a Hammond’s Flycatcher (a rare bird in the South Coast area) and achieved bird-watching fame.
Although Dan currently resides in Warwick with his wife and daughter, most Saturdays he can be found birding somewhere in Bristol County with his father.
The meeting is free, open to the public, and accessible.
