Bishop Stang students appointed to naval, Coast Guard academies
Apr 30, 2017
Three Bishop Stang students will begin on a military track following their 2017 graduation.
Charlie Markert and Mary Lyn Sullivan were appointed to the Naval Academy, which had more than 17,000 applications for the Class of 2020 and offered acceptance to only 1,355 students, according to Bishop Stang's Jana McHenry. Will Landry was appointed to the Coast Guard Academy, which typically has more than 4,000 applicants but only offers acceptance to about 300 students, said McHenry.
In addition to their scholastic achievements in high school, students applied for and received nominations from the vice president or congressman, as well as passed the Physical Aptitude Examination.
