Board of Parks and Recreation seeks bands with town ties
The Board of Parks and Recreation is thinking ahead to next year’s Summer Concert Series and wants to try something new this year.
Board member Joseph Vieira said he wants to see if he can gather bands that have a hometown connection, “whether they’re a current resident, grew up in Dartmouth, graduated from Dartmouth High School – something that ties a member of the band to the town.”
The Parks and Recreation Department could then spotlight the band’s connection and provide background information to patrons.
Vieira said that, judging from past line-ups, finding an entire season’s worth of bands with Dartmouth connections is a likely possibility.
The 2015 Summer Concert Series, which is held at Apponagansett Park, was held every Wednesday night from June 10 to Sept 2, weather permitting. Each week featured a different act and was well-attended. The venue features beachside views and inexpensive concessions at The Bucket.
Becky Amaral, the principal clerk for the department, said she will begin organizing the line-up for the 2016 series next month.
