The summer boating season has begun, as Dias landing hummed with activity over the weekend.

Boaters and Bucket-goers swarmed Apponagansett Park on a sunny Saturday afternoon as residents played volleyball, enjoyed ice cream on the Bucket’s opening day, and prepped their vessels to put back in the water.

Dartmouth resident Ari Novick was setting up the mast on the 34-foot Upbeat, his granddad’s boat, with some help from Brownell Systems, a Mattapoisett-based boat launch and transport service.

Meanwhile Shop and Kathy Kavanagh of Padanaram were getting their boat, the Playful Puppy, ready for another sailing season.

Sadly, there were no puppies on board.
