Boys soccer team toughs out the storm as they look to season ahead
After enduring persistent winds and pouring rain, the Dartmouth High School boys soccer team is looking to build back its momentum.
On Friday, Sept. 20, the team played against B.M.C Durfee High School in a game that ended in a tie.
“It was a sloppy game — the weather conditions were pretty rough,” Head Coach Joshua Silva said.
In the second half, Landon Raposa, a junior, scored the first goal of the game, putting Dartmouth into a winning position.
But as the team faced harsh conditions and a competitive team, a Durfee player scored late in the second half to tie the game at 1-1.
“It wasn’t a bad tie, but we definitely should have won that game,” said Ethan Medeiros, one of the team’s captains.
While the game ended in a tie, the team has seen more wins than losses this season.
“Four wins this season, right off the bat,” said Medeiros. “We’ve never started a season this strong — not since I’ve been here.”
After Friday’s game, Silva said the team has some more training to do. This includes watching films of their games to see what went right or wrong.
The team will soon face some “tough opponents,” Silva said, referring to New Bedford High School and Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School.
And while the team would like to win all of their upcoming games, Silva added there’s also a greater goal this season.
“[The goal] is to just get better every day,” he said. “To just kind of keep moving in the right direction.”
Nicholas Silvia, another team captain, said he thinks the team can go “the full way” in the playoff games.
“I’m so confident with our team,” he said.
Silvia credits this belief to the team’s dynamic.
“We get along well with each other and we play for each other,” he said. “So I think we’ll make a good run.”
