Buy your rubber ducks now for the annual Duck Derby

Jul 1, 2019

A yellow rubber duck could be your chance at a free meal anywhere in the world.

Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary is now accepting entries for the sanctuary’s 16th annual Duck Derby.

In advance of the derby, participants can sign up to “adopt” any number of rubber ducks. The ducks will be released into Allens Pond along the mid-day tied on August 10 for the big Duck Derby race.

The first duck to cross the finish line will net its winner a free dinner for two, anywhere in the world — with airfare and two nights of lodging included.

Prices are $10 to adopt one duck, $20 for two, $25 for three, $40 for five, $100 for 13, and $200 for 26 ducks. The ducks can be named or purchased for someone else as a gift. Entries are due by 11:45 a.m. on August 10.

To purchase, visit Mass Audubon's website, massaudubon.org, drop by the 1280 Horseneck Road Field Station in Westport or Bayside Restaurant during lunch or dinner hours, or call the Field Station at (508) 636-2437.

Entrants do not need to be present at the derby to win. For those that do want to watch the race, they can sign up for the Race Viewing on massaudubon.org. The cost to watch the race is $10 for members, and $12 for nonmembers.

Duck festivities will continue into August 11 at the Duck Derby Festival, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the 1280 Horseneck Rd. sanctuary.

A $10 BBQ, educational exhibits, kids games and crafts, live music, a silent auction and live plant auction will be included in the event. The  winners of the Duck Derby will also be announced at the event.
