Cape Verde ambassador to speak at university
Carlos Wahnon Veiga, ambassador of Cape Verde to the United States, will deliver keynote address “Cape Verdean Communities and Belonging in Challenging Times” at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's first annual Cape Verdean Cultural Day on Friday, April 7.
Veiga is a lawyer with more than 40 years experience. In addition to his former role as Attorney General, Veiga held the post of Prime Minister from 1991 to 2000, and was elected Member of Parliament in 1985, 1991, 1995, and 2011.
The event begins at 3 p.m. at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth library, in the Grand Reading Room. The occasion will also feature opening remarks by Interim Chancellor Peyton R. Helm and a performance by the Cape Verdean Student Association.
The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Office of Academic and Student Affairs, Black History 4 Seasons Council, Cape Verdean Student Association, Office of the Chancellor, College of Arts & Sciences, and Department of Educational Leadership.
