Cars, Clocks and Watches

May 21, 2019

The Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society presents Cars, Clocks and Watches, an illustrated lecture on the connections between timekeeping and automobiles, at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 2 at the Society’s building on 1205 Russells Mills Road, South Dartmouth.

Society member Bob Frishman will be presenting the strong links between carmakers — including Henry Ford — and watch companies. Watchmakers have provided stylish and rugged dashboard clocks, while luxury timepiece brands remain affiliated with high-end automobiles and auto racing.

Most people do not know that Henry Ford’s first serious tinkering began at age 12 with clocks and watches. As Chairman of the Time Symposium Committee of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, Frishman organized a three-day conference last year at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI exploring this topic.
