Council on Aging announces May events

The Dartmouth Council on Aging has released its events schedule for the month of May.

Fitness.

Strength and flex exercise classes will be from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Monday-Wednesday. A 6-week Parkinson’s Yoga class is on Wednesdays from 3:15 p.m to 4:15 p.m for $75, pre-registration is required. Drums Alive Fitness classes are on Thursdays at 1 p.m. for $5 and sign-up is required. Indoor WALK 15 classes with Marcia are $4 on Mondays at 2:30 p.m.

Health and Medical.

“Relax with Ava” Great Dane therapy dog sessions are every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.except May 29. The Memory Cafe is on Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. On May 3, Silver Foxx will be at the center. May 17 is a cooking demo with residents at Cedar Dell and May 31 there’s Relax, Breath, Meditate with Gayle-- reservation required.

There’s a blood pressure clinic on the May 11 and May 25 of the month at 9 a.m., walk-ins welcomed. A dental clinic is on May 1. Call Holly for an appointment at (774) 766-7238.

Walk-ins are welcome to a diabetic shoe clinic on May 10 at 11 a.m. The Alzheimer’s Association will host a healthy living presentation on May 15, 1 p.m. Pre-registration is required. On May 25 at 10 a.m. there’s a “Laughter as Medicine” presentation.

Classes and Workshops

A 6-week iPhone and iPad class for $30 is every Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 3p.m., pre-registration required. There are historical family research consultations by appointment.

Surprenant & Beneski legal consultations are on May 8 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. South Coast Counties Legal Clinic consultations are May 14 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Both require appointments.

An essential oil workshop is May 11 at 11:30 a.m., pre-registration is required. A presentation on downsizing and decluttering will be on May 23 at 10 a.m., pre-registration is required.

Social events.

PAWSox Silver Senior tickets are on sale for $15. It includes  pre-game bingo, transportation, and a $7 park credit.

Friday’s flick on May 11 at 12:15 p.m. is “The Shack,” transportation available and sign-up required.

“Country Three band” is back the May 2 and May 16 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for $4. Veteran’s Corner meets the first Wednesday of every month at 9 a.m. Poetry Circle is on May 2 at 2 p.m. and book club is on May 14 at 1 p.m. This month’s book is “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry” by Rachel Joyce.
