Cushman students celebrate the holidays with Santa, performances

Dec 21, 2018

Cushman Elementary School students spent the last day before vacation week singing songs, dressing like elves, and meeting with Santa Claus himself.

Throughout the week, Cushman teachers led students through various performances and skits. On Dec. 21, Linda DeCouto’s class donned beards, Santa hats, and bright red clothes to sing holiday songs and practice their academics at the same time.

DeCouto has been encouraging her students to participate in her holiday show for over 17 years, and brought the tradition to her Cushman classroom when she became a teacher there.

For the Dec. 21 show, she led her students through singing of holiday classics like Jingle Bells, and dressed her students in Santa and elf outfits for various performances. Before that,Julie Stenning also led her class through a holiday show.

After the show, her students received a special surprise: A visit from Santa Claus. Santa was makings his rounds to each class before students left for holiday vacation, talked to each student, and handed each student a candy cane on their way out.
