Dartmouth boys bow out in lacrosse loss to Duxbury
Anyone but Duxbury.
After a solid regular season that saw the Dartmouth High School boys lacrosse team go 11-8, the Indians drew perennial powerhouse Duxbury (15-3) in the first round of the Division 1 South State Tournament.
The result was a lopsided one, with the third-seeded Dragons prevailing 16-2.
Coach Peter Crane said that although his team was nervous at first to go up against a group that had several Division 1 college recruits and was ranked number 23 in the country, they never wavered.
“They’re playing kids who are going to Ohio State University, Fairfield (University), Lehigh (University),” said Crane. “They took pride in the game. There was never any letdown. We scored two (late in the game). They wanted to leave it out on the field.”
The 14-seeded Dartmouth got goals from Logan Crane and Jacob Raposo, and though the season ended in a blowout with Duxbury controlling the game from start to finish, there were positive points throughout.
The Indians beat Barnstable for the first time in the school’s history, and Crane, who is the coach’s son, logged a school record 55 goals and 44 assists on his way to a school record 301 career points. Raposo added 43 goals, giving the Indians a powerful one-two punch at the top of their lineup.
The older Crane said the group would miss the scorers as well as goalie Will Kuphal, defender David Lahti, and midfielder Drew Sylvia.
“We have holes to fill,” he said, “ but it might be that way for some of the other teams in the area. A lot of good seniors are leaving. Those holes can be filled, but the kids have to step up and work in the offseason to get better. That’s what the good teams do. They don’t put their sticks down.”
