Dartmouth exceeds state averages in PARCC testing

Nov 11, 2015

Dartmouth students continue to impress with high achievement in state testing. According to PARCC results released on Tuesday, Nov. 10, most Dartmouth students in grades 3 through 8 exceeded the state average in both English and math scores.

PARCC testing, or the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, was administered in Spring 2015 to 1,791 Dartmouth students in grades 3 through 8. Across the state, 777 schools participated in PARCC testing.

PARCC test results were broken up into five achievement-based levels, the highest of which was Level 4 and 5, the “Met or Exceeded Expectations” category.

In this category, Dartmouth students scored 71 percent in English, exceeding the state average of 60 percent. In math, Dartmouth also exceeded the state average with a district score of 59 percent in the "Meet or Exceeded Expectations" category compared to the state’s 52 percent.

In September, Dartmouth’s MCAS scores were also largely above state averages.

The MCAS report, released by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, weighed science scores primarily in 5th, 8th and 10th grades as well as English and math scores in grade 10.

The 2015-2016 school year marks the end of PARCC’s two-year “test drive.” Later this month, the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education will vote on whether to adopt PARCC testing statewide.
