Dartmouth High boys soccer knocked out of postseason

After pushing through to the Division 2 South semifinals, the Dartmouth High boys soccer team faced a 2-3 loss to Bishop Feehan on November 11.

Senior Nathaniel Fernandes picked up the first goal just 18 minutes into the game. The Indians then went into halftime with a 1-2 lead.

A tense second half gave way to a Bishop Feehan goal, tying the game at 2-2 with 10 minutes remaining. Feehan secured its win in overtime to advance to the Div. 2 South sectional finals.

Head Coach Josh Silva said that Dartmouth’s biggest challenge during the match was taking advantage of scoring opportunities, with several close attempts at goals thawed by Shamrock goalkeepers.

“At the end of the day [Bishop Feehan] cashed in on their opportunities, and we just didn’t cash in on enough of ours,” Silva said. He added that the teams were evenly matched, with Bishop Feehan seeding second in Div. 2, and Dartmouth as the third seed.

The loss ends a successful postseason run for Dartmouth. The Indians beat out Medfield with a 2-0 win in the first round, and came close to shutting out last year’s Div. 2 state champions, Oliver Ames, with a 4-1 win in the quarter finals.

“We played our best ball of the season against Oliver Ames, defending state champions,” Silva said. “It just seemed like we were clicking.”

Silva is already looking ahead to next season. With nine seniors leaving the team, Silva is expecting his experienced juniors, sophomores, and freshmen to fill needed roles.

“The future is bright,” Silva said.
