Dartmouth Middle School graduates are moving up
Rows of chairs sat filled with students dressed up in their finest outfits as eager family members buzzed in the bleachers at the Dartmouth Memorial Stadium.
Dartmouth Middle School held its 56th annual graduation Thursday, June 12. The current eighth graders will begin as freshmen in the fall and saw recognition for their efforts in their last three years of school.
Representative Chris Markey presented a letter from President Donald Trump addressed to the students. Trump wished the students continued success as they advanced into high school.
"My administration remains committed to the culture and excellence of our country where hard work is rewarded," he said.
Among the letters were awards honoring the students like the Karen Marchand Award, which goes to students who showed commitment and personal growth. Marchand was a former guidance counselor who passed away in 2005.
Lincon Ouimet was given the award for his ability to face challenges head on and to overcome obstacles with determination, grace and strength. Ouimet said that he didn't know he would be receiving anything, but started to get an inkling during the introduction of the award.
Diane Massari spoke about Ouimet and his growth since joining Dartmouth Middle School in May of 2024. Ouimet said coming to the district he was nervous and awkward at first but that it was fine by graduation.
"I'm going to miss hanging with friends and having fun here," he said.
Solange Mballa said that she didn't have any negative experiences in middle school and can't wait to move up to high school. She said she liked to do her homework and was going to miss her friends.
"I look forward to making more friends and working hard," she said.
Mballa had advice for the students starting their middle school journeys in the fall.
"Try your best, work hard and make a lot of friends," Mballa said. "Remember to stay in your place and ignore all the bad people in your life."
As the last of the names were called and family cheered for their students, Principal Peter Rossi sent the newest freshmen off with one final message.
"We congratulate you on your accomplishments and wish you the very best for a successful future," he said. "Students, you are now officially the graduating Class of 2029. Good luck."
