Dartmouth remembers its fallen heroes
Although the Memorial Day parade was cancelled due to weather, town representatives still gathered in the rain to remember fallen military.
The crowd included District No. 1 and No. 3 firefighters, police, Veteran of Foreign Wars members and the Lady's Auxiliary, and Select Board members.
"The folks we are honoring today endured much more than we're doing today," said Veterans Service Officer Roy Oliveira, signaling the rain.
The ceremony began around 9:30 a.m. on the Padanaram Bridge. As is tradition, a wreath was throw over the bridge while the VFW Post 9059 presented "Taps."
The ceremony then moved to the South Dartmouth Cemetery, where Oliveira and Joseph Toomey presented the 34 names of Dartmouth residents who had fallen while serving in the military.
The parade was also cancelled last year due to rain.
The parade is organized by Emergency Management Agency Director Ed Pimental. He has organized the parade for more than 30 years, and is now retiring.
