Dartmouth Rotary and Friends of the Elderly donate $750 to Meals on Wheels

The Dartmouth Rotary and Dartmouth Friends of the Elderly donated $750 to the non-profit Coastline Elderly Services who runs the Meals on Wheels program, delivering food to homebound seniors in Dartmouth.

Maria Connor, president of the Dartmouth Friends of the Elderly, states that the program is facing financial difficulties "mainly because financing from the federal government is not coming in as is needed.”

Due to ongoing issues with funding, Connor says that senior residents in surrounding areas are struggling to receive meals.

“Can you imagine an elderly person discharged from the hospital and has no one to cook for them, has to be put on a waiting list for a meal? It’s totally ridiculous,” said Connor.

According to Connor, the check also acts as a symbolic gesture to urge others to make donations to Coastline Elderly Services.

“We just wanted the public to be aware of what’s going on with the program,” said Connor.
