Dartmouth schools to see increased police presence through end of academic year

Jun 1, 2022

In response to last week’s mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, police announced Wednesday that Dartmouth’s public schools will see increased security through the end of the academic year.

Police said the decision was made in collaboration with the School Department “out of an abundance of caution for both the physical and mental well-being of the students, parents, and staff alike.”

“It goes without saying that the safety of Dartmouth's children is our top priority!” the department said in a Facebook post.

Requests for increased police were not made by Friends Academy or Bishop Stang.

“If the other schools have concerns, they can always contact us,” Costa said. “We’re always willing to work with them.”

No local threats have been received, Costa assured.
