Dartmouth students get a boost to medical education
Summer may be in full swing but some recent Dartmouth graduates are already planning ahead for the start of college in the fall – securing $1,500 scholarships on behalf of three Southcoast Health Hospitals.
Out of 141 applicants, five Dartmouth students and 23 other high school graduates from across the South Coast, received a total of $42,000 from the Southcoast Health Ambassadors’ Scholarship Program.
This program funds students who are working toward future careers in the medical field. This year’s recipients were each awarded with $1,500 scholarships, the highest amount awarded since the program’s inception in 1941, according to Southcoast Health.
“This program is truly special as it reflects Southcoast Health’s commitment to the community,” said Southcoast Health President and CEO David McCready. “By supporting those who pursue careers in healthcare and medicine, we are ensuring there will be skilled caregivers to serve our region for generations to come.”
Dartmouth’s recipients are:
Dartmouth High School graduate Brooke Davis, who received the St. Luke’s Trauma Team Scholarship and will major in neuroscience at Northeastern University.
Dartmouth resident and Bishop Stang High School graduate Teal Galligan, who received the Southcoast Behavioral Health Scholarship and will attend Regis College to major in nursing.
Rochester resident and Bishop Stang High School graduate Kara Feen, who received the John Leimert, MD and Christine Leimert Scholarship, and will attend Providence College to major in nursing.
Dartmouth resident and Old Rochester Regional High School graduate Emilia Perriera, who received the Wylde Family Scholarship and will major in nursing at Salve Regina University.
