Dartmouth woman killed in Westport by drunken driver
A Dartmouth woman was killed Friday night in Westport as a result of a two-vehicle collision with a drunken driver.
According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office, Geraldine Correia, 73, of Dartmouth was ejected from her vehicle after her vehicle was struck by Robert J. Hansen, 62, of Westport while traveling on Route 6.
“There was impact between the two vehicles. The victim was ejected from her vehicle. Police were called immediately by witnesses,” said Gregg Miliote, director of communications at the district attorney's office.
Correia was rushed to Charlton Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead, he said.
Hansen was charged with motor vehicle homicide by operating under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, according to Miliote.
Hansen suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident. He is being arraigned on Oct. 19.
The accident occurred on Route 6 in Westport on the westbound side of the highway. Miliote said the nearest address to the crash site is 1005 State Road.
Miliote said he could not go into further details because the case is in court.
