The Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational-Technical High School will be giving back to locations in Dartmouth, New Bedford, and Fairhaven, thanks to a recently received $25,000 grant.

The Lowe's for SkillsUSA Community Action Grant encourages community impact, collaboration, and sustainability. GNB Voc-Tech will use the grant monies to contribute to the Dartmouth YMCA, the Community Boating Center, and Fort Phoenix.

"Local community centers and parks are in need of picnic tables, a place for shade, and benches for various activities," according to a recent press release from Sue Demers, the school's Scheduling/Reporting Coordinator.

"With this grant, our students will be able to build these items and paint murals and colorful scenes for the children and community to enjoy," wrote Demers.

Stacey Martin from the school's science department initiated the grant application, which was originally for $21,800. Karen Ward, the Executive Director of SkillsUSA Massachusetts, contacted the school to not only let it know it was awarded the grant, but that the grant amount had been increased to $25,000, according to the press release.
