Dartmouth Police detective Scott Brooks rescued an elderly man from a house fire in North Dartmouth on Saturday evening.

According to a statement released by the police department, at around 5:20 p.m. on April 20, police responded to a structure fire with entrapment at 17 Johnson Street off Slocum Road.

Four children had already left the residence before the arrival of emergency responders, but one man was still inside.

Det. Brooks entered the burning building, found the elderly man in the lower level of the house, and safely escorted him out.

The fire — contained in a single room on the upper level of the raised ranch-style home — was put out by the District No. 3 fire department.

No injuries were reported, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

Dartmouth Police Chief Brian Levesque noted that the incident serves as an example of the officers’ dedication.

He commented: “Even if it means placing their own lives in danger, the top priority of the men and women of the Dartmouth Police Department is to protect and serve the members of
the community by any means possible.”
