District No. 3 Prudential Committee fills vacancy
The District No. 3 Prudential Committee appointed a third member on June 20, filling a vacancy that has been open since April.
Chairman Alan King and Robert Zina appointed Terrance Pimental as the third member in the three-member committee. Pimental will be sworn in before the next Prudential Committee meeting on July 18.
King said Pimental's finance experience—having over 20 years experience with the Paskamansett Engine Company and having formerly worked as a firefighter—made him the best candidate for the position.
According to district bylaws, the appointment will only fill the gap until election in April 2017. Then, Pimental will have to run for re-election for a three-year term, assuming he is still interested in the position.
The committee's former third member, John McNamara, had been voted into the position in April 2016, but had never been sworn in or otherwise accepted election to the post.
"I think 47 years is enough for the fire department," said McNamara, who served as District No. 3's fire chief for 25 years prior to joining the Prudential Committee in 2005.
The Prudential Committee member position pays $1,800 yearly.
