District No.3 Prudential Committee now accepting applications
The two Prudential Committee members of Fire District No. 3 will appoint someone to fill the committee's third seat, as John McNamara, winner at the ballot in April, has not sworn in or otherwise accepted election to the post.
"I think 47 years is enough for the fire department," said McNamara, who served as District No.3's fire chief for 25 years prior to joining the Prudential Committee in 2005.
Fire Chief Richard Arruda noted that, according to district bylaws, Prudential Committee Chair Alan King and member Robert Zina can appoint a third member. Otherwise, the seat wouldn't be filled until the April 2017 election.
King and Zina will make an appointment at the June 20 Prudential Committee meeting. Any resident of District No. 3 is eligible to apply. Drop off a letter of interest at District 3's Cross Road station to do so. The position pays $1,800 yearly.
The appointment will only fill the 10-month gap between June and the following April election. The appointee will have to run for re-election for a three-year term in 2017.
