DNRT to host summer yoga series

Jul 1, 2016

Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust (DNRT) will host free weekly yoga classes at the Slocum’s River Reserve in Dartmouth this summer, starting Wednesday, July 13 at 8:30 am. This is the fourth season of free yoga offered by DNRT at Slocum’s River Reserve thanks to the generous sponsorship of Hawthorn Medical Associates.

The yoga class is instructed by Jeff Costa, E-RYT 200, a Yoga Alliance nationally certified instructor and a graduate of the Kripalu School of Yoga and Health. The yoga class will take place every Wednesday, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am, from July 13 through August 31, 2016.  Learn traditional yoga postures and breathing techniques to help boost physical health, including strength and flexibility, as well as improve immune response, increase energy and improve sound sleep. Jeff will also introduce traditional yoga relaxation and meditation techniques, perfect for stress reduction, increased mindfulness, and creating an improved sense of balance and well-being.

The Slocum’s River Reserve is located on Horseneck Road in Dartmouth, about 1.4 miles south of Russell’s Mills Village. The Reserve is owned and managed by DNRT in partnership with The Trustees of Reservations and is comprised of open fields, woodlands, and a saltmarsh on 47 acres overlooking the Slocum’s River. Please allow yourself an extra 10 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the site of the class.

Individuals of all abilities are invited to participate, and the classes are free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Participants should bring their own water and yoga mat, and are also encouraged to bring insect repellant.   If a class is cancelled, notification will be made on the DNRT Facebook page and website (dnrt.org).  There will be no makeup classes for cancelled dates.

DNRT is a non-profit, membership-supported land trust founded in 1971 with a mission “To preserve and protect Dartmouth’s natural resources for people and nature, forever.” Over the last 45 years, it has worked in partnership with other conservation organizations, state agencies and the Town of Dartmouth to protect over 5,000 acres in Dartmouth. DNRT currently owns more than 1,500 acres of conservation land on over 50 Reserves, and maintains more than 35 miles of hiking trails.
