Dorothy L. Ames, 89, of North Dartmouth, passed away Monday, February 10, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital, in New Bedford, after a brief illness.

Born and raised in New Bedford, daughter of the late Merle L. and Nellie E. (Zawalski) Ames, she lived in Burlington, VT for many years, returning to the area four and a half years ago.  She was a member of the Dartmouth Bible Church.

A graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1948, she then worked for New England Telephone, became a supervisor and traveled to various parts of New England and retired after 30 years of service, settling in Burlington, VT for many years.  Having a fondness for genealogy, she researched her ancestry and later became the State Regent of VT and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  Dot enjoyed gardening and reading and always had a smile.

She is survived by her sister, Janet E. Marlowe of So. Dartmouth;  two nephews, Christopher B. Marlowe of Dartmouth and Seth B. Marlowe of Cape Coral, FL and several great nieces and nephews.

Private services will be under the direction of the Donaghy-Hathaway Funeral Home, 465 County St., New Bedford.
