'Duck Derby' set for Aug. 15

Aug 11, 2015

Mass Audubon’s Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary will host its 12th annual Duck Derby on Saturday August 15.

There, a flotilla of rubber duck racers will contend for dinner to anywhere in the world with round-trip airfare and two nights free of lodging.

The duck race will commence at approximately 6:50 p.m.

The adopted ducks will “paddle” on the incoming tide from Buzzards Bay into Allens Pond. Last year, over 5,700 adopted ducks participated in the derby. As the ducks are raced in an area that is private land, participants must register with the field station to walk with a Mass Audubon staff member to view the race.

Please call us at (508) 636-2437 to register or email allendpond@massaudubon.org.

In addition to the Grand Prize, there are nearly fifty other prizes up for grabs. The six-thousandth entry will win seven nights of luxury accommodations at the Galley Bay Resort and Spa in sunny Antigua.

Post-race festivities will take place on Sunday, August 16 on the grounds near the field station at the sanctuary from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include a $5 barbecue lunch, games and crafts for kids, educational exhibits, live music from Tom and Toph, a video replay of the race, a silent auction, and live plant auction.

As the grand prize and all other prizes are sponsored and/or donated, all derby proceeds will be used to support programs at Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary. Select silent auction items can be previewed online as well.
