Edward Monterio Mendonca, age 91, of Dartmouth passed away Tuesday, August 30 at Hathaway Manor surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Laura (Sylvia) Mendonca with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.
Born in Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Fernando and Claudiana Mendonca. He lived most of his life in Dartmouth. He served as a corporal in the United States Army during World War II in Panama.
Edward worked for the Town of Dartmouth in maintenance for the highway department and the sewer treatment facility.
Survivors in addition to his wife are two sons: Ernest Mendonca and his wife Betty of Dartmouth, Wayne Mendonca and his wife Dianne of New Bedford, 4 grandchildren: Christopher Mendonca of Vallejo, CA, Tracy Cooley and her husband Michael of Somerset, Tara Mendonca and her partner Krystal Rezendes of New Bedford, Derek Mendonca and his wife Vanda of New Bedford, 8 great grandchildren: Austin, Dylan, Tyler, Nathan, Morgan, Kaylin, Gavin, and Kennedy, a twin brother Fernando Mendonca of Fall River, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Aurelia Paine.
His visitation will be held Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth. His funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
