FBI agents carried out searches of several eye doctor’s offices in Dartmouth and Rhode Island on Jan. 23.

Reports began circulating on social media late Wednesday afternoon of FBI agents spotted at the Eye Health Vision Center, located at 51 State Rd. Witnesses reported being evacuated from the building by FBI agents and police.

According to FBI spokesperson Kristen Setera, the FBI is "working with another agency, conducting court authorized activity."

It is unclear what prompted the search. Setera could not comment further.

The Eye Health Vision Center is owned by Claris Vision Company. The offices of Koch Eye Associates in Warwick, RI, another subsidiary of Claris Vision Company, was also visited by the FBI on Wednesday.

According to state incorporation records, Eye Health Vision Centers was established in Massachusetts in 1997. The company was acquired by Claris in 2013.

At the time of the acquisition, Claris was a portfolio company of Candescent Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm. The firm's founding partners, Steve Jenks and Alexander McGrath, are listed as managers of Claris in the company’s 2018 Rhode Island corporate filings.
