Fire District No. 3 budgets for four more full-time firefighters
Dartmouth Fire District No. 3 held its annual meeting on Monday, May 2, to vote on the 2017 fiscal budget.
Voters passed a $3,203,778.17 budget, including the creation of four full-time firefighter positions averaging a $53,000 salary each, said district clerk and treasurer Joan Brennan.
The district currently has four full-time firefighter positions and a full-time fire inspector, in addition to full-time fire chief Richard Arruda, said Brennan.
Voters also added a part-time duty firefighter for the midnight shift, said Brennan.
Tax dollars will support $2,810,778.17 of the budget; surplus revenue will cover $393,000.
Fiscal year 2017 begins on July 1, 2016.
District No. 3 is the largest of the town's three fire districts. Fire District No. 1 currently has no full-time firefighters (excluding the fire chief Brad Ellis); Fire District No. 2 has one full-time firefighter in addition to fire chief Tim Andre.
