Firefighters battle shed fire started by cigarettes

District No. 1 firefighters responded to a structure fire on March 5 that started with disposed cigarettes.
Firefighters responded to 53 McCabe Street around 2 p.m., and found that a single story shed had caught fire.
"There was a nice package of Newport cigarettes crumpled up there," said Chief Brad Ellis, although he noted that the fire is under investigation.
Ellis said that the fire had started in the trash, moved to a refrigerator, and up into the roof area before firefighters were alerted.
One firefighter overheated due to the workload, but there were no serious injuries, said Ellis.
It is not yet clear how much damage the fire caused.
