Food assistance available for low-income seniors at Council on Aging
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program, sponsored by the Greater Boston Food Bank, is offering a monthly food distribution program for low-income seniors over the age of 60.
Once a month, two free bags of shelf-stable food, such as peanut butter, pasta or canned goods, can be picked up from the Dartmouth Council on Aging.
The program is not a "first come, first served" program. Once enrolled, a bag will be held for each participant every month. Participants who have limited mobility are allowed to authorize an individual to pick up their bag on their behalf.
Seniors must meet specific criteria to apply to the program. To qualify, the person must be over the age of 60 and reside in Dartmouth, Fairhaven or Marion. The individual must also have a monthly income less than 130 percent of the Federal poverty line ($1,276 a month for an individual; $1,726 a month per couple).
