Football ends winning streak in semi-final loss
The Dartmouth High football team lost its bid for third consecutive Super Bowl after a 37-27 loss to North Attleboro on November 4.
“North Attleboro has a very good program. They’re good every year,” said Head Coach Rick White. “We scrimmage with them in August. They’re one of the top programs in the state.”
On game day, the Indians kept up with North Attleboro. By halftime, Dartmouth had picked up three interceptions.
In the final minute of the second quarter, Dartmouth High senior running back Liam Caulfield intercepted and set up a touchdown. An extra point would have tied the game heading into the second half, but the Rocketeers blocked it and ran it back to close out the half with a 16-13 lead.
The Indians kept the pressure on. At several points throughout the second half, Dartmouth brought the score within three points of North Attleboro, but it was not enough.
“I thought our kids played hard, but we were outmatched up front,” White said. “North Attleboro was able to shut down our running game, which made us one-dimensional.”
Before the matchup, the team prepped with game footage in addition to its regular practice, said White. He wanted his players to be familiar with North Attleboro’s aggressive running game, offensive power, and tough defense.
The loss ended a 16-game winning streak for the Indians that stretched back into last season. Despite the loss, White is already looking forward to the team’s face off against Stoughton on November 11. After that, White will begin prepping the team for the Thanksgiving game against Fairhaven.
