Frederick Gifun passed away peacefully at home in central Florida in January.

He was a history professor at UMASS Dartmouth and also held positions in administration. He taught lifelong-learning classes first through Fall River’s The Second Half, and again after relocating to central Florida.

Fred is survived by Evelyn, his loving wife of 60 years, daughters Gina and Donna, grandchildren Robert and Skye, three great-granddaughters and two sisters.

He is lovingly remembered for his good-natured personality, musical abilities, admiration of nature, and fair-mindedness. He authored two books: UMASS Dartmouth 1960-2006; Trials and Triumphs and New Bedford’s Church, about the historic First Unitarian Church in New Bedford, where he and Evelyn were members for over 30 years.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 7th at 2:00 at the First Unitarian Church in New Bedford. The service will also be live streamed for those not able to attend, at youtube.com/@uunewbedfordma1708.
