Dartmouth High’s girls basketball team is out of the running for the state championship after a nail-biter against Nauset on Wednesday in which the team lost 48-58 in the first round of the tournament.

The Indians were trailing for much of the match, but pulled ahead briefly in the fourth period with a handful of hard-fought points, until the visiting team evened it up with just three minutes left.

The team from Cape Cod sank several more baskets in the last few minutes.

Nauset will go on to play Norwood in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Meanwhile the Dartmouth High boys basketball team is also out of the state tournament following a 93-78 loss to Somerset-Berkley in the preliminary round on February 24.
