Grace A. Silva, 60
Grace A. Silva, age 60, of Dartmouth, passed away on Sunday, October 2 at home surrounded by her loving family following a long courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Jose F. Silva with whom she shared 38 years of marriage.
Born in Faial, Azores, Portugal, a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (de Simas) Alves, she came to the United States in 1967 and has resided in Dartmouth since 1981.
Silva was a graduate of New Bedford High School and attended Southeastern Massachusetts University. She had worked as a travel agent for the former Crown Travel for many years.
Silva had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in the choir at Bay Community Baptist Church in Swansea. She loved soccer, traveling and the company of her loving family, especially her grandchildren. Her family would like to thank Dr. Lorch and his staff for their care and compassion.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, Melanie Martinez and her husband Jason of Dartmouth, Karrie Santos and her husband Kevin of Fairhaven and Nathaniel Silva of Dartmouth; her siblings, Manuel Alves, Antonio Alves, Fernanda Ramos, Jose Alberto Alves and Olga Sousa; her grandchildren, Maddox and Conner Santos and Jaelynn Martinez; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was the sister of the late Estela Pacheco.
Visiting hours were held on October 5 in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd. Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Service at 10 a.m. in Bay Community Baptist Church, 169 Ocean Grove Ave., Swansea. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.
