Halloween events offer lots of treats

Looking to scare up some fun this Halloween weekend? Here are a few options: 

Friday, Oct. 29 

Haunted hike

A hike geared toward children ages 6 to 10 will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29 at Smith Farm, Smith Neck Road, sponsored by Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust. After a stroll of the property, which will be decorated for Halloween, spooky stories will be shared around the campfire. Cost is $10 per family, registration is required at dnrt.org/event/hauntedhike/.

Saturday, Oct. 30 

Trunk or treat at Fire District 1

Fire District 1 and the Parks and Recreation Department will host a trunk or treat at 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Dartmouth Fire District 1, 10 Bridge St. Event will move indoors in case of inclement weather. Children are encouraged to dress in costumes. 

Little Monsters walk

A hike for children ages 2 to 5 will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at Smith Farm, Smith Neck Road. The hike will be led by a group of costumed volunteers. Participants are encouraged to dress up for the hike, which is sponsored by Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust.

Halloween nature stroll

A walk for those 10 and older will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at Lloyd Center for the Environment, 430 Potomska Road. Walkers will search for birds and mammals on the property and will identify trees and shrubs. Koko the screech owl will be brought out at the end of the event to wish everyone a happy Halloween. Trick or treat with alpacas 

Hill Crest Alpacas, 338 Old Fall River Road, will host a trick or treat event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Saturday, Oct. 30. The cost is $15 per child and includes goodies for children and treats to feed the alpacas. Children are encouraged to wear costumes, the alpacas will be wearing theirs.
