Healthy Dartmouth announces presentation schedule

Healthy Dartmouth–a program run by Dartmouth Public Schools, the Dartmouth Youth Commission and Police Department, Bishop Stang and SADD to help foster a better community–will kick off its 2016-2017 community presentation series on September 17 with a program called “Hidden in Plain Sight.”

The program, which will be hosted by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and the Dartmouth Youth Advocate, will discuss how adults can identify signs of teen drug use. Topics that will be covered include common hiding places for drugs, items that may point to risky behavior, how to identify different types of drugs and drug paraphernalia, how and why drugs are used, and what to do if drug use is suspected.

The event will be held at the Old Navy in the Dartmouth Mall from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Healthy Dartmouth has several other presentations and events lined up for the rest of 2016. On September 25, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth nursing student Callie Nunez will host a “Recovery Walk” at the UMass Dartmouth Campus Track from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. to raise awareness of the impact of substance abuse.

On September 26 at 7 p.m., former Boston Celtics player Chris Herren will discuss his struggle with heroin addiction at the Dartmouth High School auditorium.

October 3 will feature a presentation called “Keeping Your Teens Safe,” and will cover how to identify the signs and symptoms of depression in teenagers. The presentation will run on October 3 at the high school auditorium at 6 p.m.

The final event of 2016 will be held on November 7 at 6 p.m. at Dartmouth Middle School, and will cover how to keep children safe online.
