Henri is now a tropical depression but effects linger

Aug 22, 2021

Henri has been downgraded once more, this time to a tropical depression, but the area can’t say au revoir to its impact quite yet, according to the National Weather Service.

Flooding rain is still a risk as Henri exits the region, the service reports Sunday evening. A coastal flood advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. Sunday, with up to six inches of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways.

The area is expected to see isolated to scattered strong to severe thunderstorms Monday. The main threat, the National Weather Service reports, will be heavy downpours that can lead to localized flooding, strong winds and the potential for a brief, isolated tornado.

Henri is inland and weakening as it continues to push further inland, the National Weather Service reports. Henri will lift northwestward into early Monday morning, and will then move eastward across southern New England moving into the Gulf ofMaine on Tuesday

All watches and warnings have been canceled. As of 8:30 p.m., Eversource reports fewer than three customers without power.
