Here’s what’s coming up at the Council on Aging in September

The Dartmouth Council on Aging has announced its list of events for the month of September.

This September, the Dartmouth COA will be undergoing a “100 Cups of Coffee Challenge.” The goal is to share a cup of coffee and a conversation with local business owners and town departments to discuss the needs and wants of the aging community. Call or visit the Center to arrange a coffee date.

On the subject of coffee, Café 628 will once again open at the Center on Friday, September 13 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at a cost of $4 in advance. Call the Center for reservations.

Health and Wellness

The COA will continue its “Throw a Punch at Parkinson’s” boxing exercise program in September on Tuesdays from 1 to 2 p.m. Please call the Center for more information.

New to the Center is a free pain screening program with Bay State Physical Therapy on the second Thursday of the month, 1 - 2 p.m. By appointment only.

Also new are free private consultations with Registered Dietician Katlynn Ferreira for a nutritional clinic at the Center on the second Tuesday of the month, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. By appointment only.

A free blood pressure clinic will take place on the second and the last Fridays of the month from 9 to 10 a.m. Walk-ins welcome.

There will be a Hypnosis Workshop series of three sessions at a cost of $8 per session in advance. Those interested may attend as many sessions as they like. The first workshop, on September 10, will be on weight loss. The second, on September 17, is on managing stress, and the third is about self hypnosis on September 24.

On Thursday, September 19 at 2 p.m. officials will give a presentation on Project Lifesaver, a local search and rescue program for people with Alzheimer’s, Autism and other related conditions run by the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office and Dartmouth Police Department. There will be an overview of the program as well as available scholarships. Pre-registration required.

A Cannabis forum on Cannabis for pain and inflammation will take place on Wednesday, September 11, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Cost is $5.00. Pre-registration required.

Arts

This month’s matinee film screening will be “The Big Sick” on Thursday, September 19 at 1:30 p.m. Free popcorn. Sign-up required.

Artist Jane Bregoli will offer a Portrait Drawing class on Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Some drawing experience preferable. The class costs $48 for four sessions.

There will be an Art For Your Mind presentation on “Edward Hopper’s New England” on Thursday, September 26 at 1:30 p.m. Pre-registration required.
