Here’s what’s happening at the Dartmouth Council on Aging in December.

Next month the Council is continuing its 100 Cups of Coffee Challenge, seeking to have 100 cups of coffee with local business owners and various town departments to share information and ideas relating to the needs and wants of the aging community. Call or visit the Center for more information.

Health and wellness

A free new dance class called Dance for Parkinson’s will be taking place every Monday from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. excluding the third Monday of each month. Participants will be empowered to explore movement and music. No experience required; caregivers welcome.

The ‘Throw a Punch at Parkinson’s’ boxing exercise program will continue on Tuesdays from 1 to 2 p.m. For more information, call the Center.

New this month, there will be free pain screenings with Bay State Physical Therapy on the second Thursday of the month, 1 - 2 p.m. by appointment only.

Also by appointment only, the center will host hearing evaluations and hearing aid checks and cleanings on the last Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon. Call to make an appointment.

A workshop on maintaining health and beauty through hypnosis will take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2 - 3:30 p.m. Cost is $10.00 and pre-registration is required. Limited to ten people.

The ABC’s of a Healthy Holiday Feast — including a cooking demo — hosted by local dietician Katlynn Ferreira will be held on Monday, December 16 at 10 a.m. Space is limited. Sign up required.

Educational programs

Meet some of the UMass Dartmouth international students for the UMass International Speaker Series. Learn about the speakers’ home countries, including India and one other country at a presentation and question and answer session on Tuesday, December 3 at 4 p.m. 

iPhone Tutoring with volunteer Dartmouth High School students will take place on Wednesday, December 11 and December 18 at 3:30 p.m. Walk-ins welcome.

Cedar Dell will host a Holiday Dessert Cooking Demo on Tuesday, December 17 at 12:30 p.m. Space is limited. Sign up at the Center’s front desk.

Arts and entertainment 

Art for your Mind continues with impressionism on Thursday, December 5 at 1:30 p.m. Call to reserve a spot. This event is free.

The December Matinee will be “A Cinderella Story” shown on Thursday, December 12 at 1:30 p.m. Sign-ups are required. Popcorn is free.

Listen to the Dartmouth High School’s a capella singing group, the Harmonix, on December 13 from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Make paper snowflakes at a free workshop with Jane Bregoli on Monday, December 16 at 1 p.m. Sign-ups required.

On Friday, December 20 at 9:30 a.m., the center will be screening “Bridging the Future” Episode Two on the Great Rock Cemetery of Russell’s Mills Village. A continental breakfast will also be included. This program is a partnership between the Dartmouth Council on Aging and Dartmouth Community Television. Pre-registration is required.
