Here's what the Council on Aging has planned for January

Dec 18, 2020

Although the Council on Aging has suspended its events, programs and classes at the senior center, it is still providing services to Dartmouth residents in need. Here are the COA services coming up to kick off the new year.

Council on Aging newsletter

The COA newsletter is available on the Town of Dartmouth website. Visit town.dartmouth.ma.us and click on ‘Departments’ and then ‘Council on Aging.’ Look for the latest newsletter in the left-hand menu.

Otherwise, call (508) 999-4717 and provide your email or mailing address to be added to the mailing list.

Pound by Pound support group

A common New Year’s resolution is shedding a few pounds. Beginning Jan. 20 at 10 a.m., dieticians Stephanie Boulay and Katlynn Ferreira will each join participants through Zoom one Wednesday a month for education and encouragement. Contact Nancy at the Center for more information.

New “write on” journaling group

Prompted entries will express reflections on the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as other life experiences and history. For more information, contact Nancy at the Center.

Classes online

A new year also brings a new set of classes. As a part of the DCOA virtual programming in collaboration with Dartmouth Community Media, Buzzards Bay Speech Therapy will present “Brain Builders.”

The three classes will focus on tips and techniques to improve short term memory, remembering names and word finding and thinking skills.

The center will also host a class on identity theft and fraud prevention in the time of Covid. This presentation will include, how to spot scams, how to prevent identity theft and current scams.

Center classes now available on DCTV Channel 18. All classes can be live streamed or seen on demand on the DCTV website: www.town.dartmouth.ma.us/dartmouth-community-media.

Classes are also available on the DCTV Youtube channel.

Legal assistance

For legal advice, the COA will host consultations with elder law attorney Brandon Walecka on Jan. 14 from 10 to 11 a.m. by appointment only.
